FAQs

What is the best chocolate to use when making cocoa bombs? ›

You can use either compound chocolate (candy coating chocolate) or real chocolate; I've used both with great results.

Why do my hot chocolate bombs keep breaking? ›

The reason your compound chocolate is cracking when you take it out of the mold is most likely because it's too thin. Try to make sure that you use enough chocolate that I indicate in the tutorial above and make sure it's definitely set by allowing the mold to rest in the fridge for at least 10 minutes.

How much milk do you put in a cocoa bomb? ›

To serve, place in a mug and then slowly pour steaming hot milk over the hot chocolate bomb (or just drop the cocoa bomb in a mug of steaming milk). I've found that 8-10 oz of milk seems to be just the right amount. Enjoy! These make great gifts!

What is a 3 piece mold for hot chocolate bombs? ›

Each 3 part mold contains three cavities. Each mold also comes with 3 very thin inserts. The name "3 part" comes from a top piece, the inserts, and a bottom piece. Because they are made of plastic, they cannot be heated or placed in the dishwasher.

Are hot cocoa bombs better with milk or water? ›

While you can technically use water instead of milk to melt the hot cocoa bombs, we do not recommend this as it may result in a less rich and flavorful hot chocolate. If you prefer a more diluted hot chocolate, however, feel free to experiment with different liquids and adjust the amount of bomb used accordingly.

Can I use Hershey bars for cocoa bombs? ›

What You Need to Make Hot Chocolate Bombs: HERSHEY'S Milk Chocolate Bars (I bought 10 bars to melt down) Hot chocolate bomb mold (You can buy online or pick-up at any crafting store in the baking section.) Hot cocoa mix.

How do you make a hot chocolate bomb explode? ›

Slowly pour your milk over top of the hot chocolate bomb and watch the magic happen. (For best “explosion” results, pour your hot milk over the seam of the hot chocolate bomb.) Give your drink a good stir to make sure all of the delicious chocolate and cocoa gets incorporated.

Can you make a hot chocolate bomb without a mold? ›

Yes, but it depends on what look you're going for. No mold required. Trust me when I say I tried all the ways to make hot chocolate bombs without a mold (a plastic-wrapped egg, empty plastic Easter eggs, an orange) and paper cupcake liners are by far the easiest with the best results.

How much should I charge for hot chocolate bombs? ›

So pulling it all together using this example, at a minimum you should charge $1.66 per cocoa bomb if you want to make any profit at all. Don't forget…the foundation of your price is your cost. So… make sure you get to the bottom of your cost before you set a price.

Can you use melting wafers for hot chocolate bombs? ›

You'll need to use chocolate melting wafers or a chocolate bar.

What is the best size for cocoa bombs? ›

It depends on what kind of mug you'll use with them! Ensure your mold makes cocoa bombs small enough to fit into your cups, but not so small that you'll need multiple bombs just to get a flavorful treat. Generally speaking, molds that are under 2.5” to 3” in diameter should work.

What is the best chocolate for hot cocoa? ›

*Choose the best quality chocolate you can, as the flavor really carries the drink. I love Guittard for a splurge, Ghirardelli, or Godiva, but the Trader Joe's Pound Plus 72% bar is quite good too. I do not recommend chocolate chips, as they contain stabilizers and do not melt as well.

What chocolate is good for melting and hardening? ›

Top-quality semisweet and bittersweet chocolates are good choices. The best choice is couverture, which is favored by candy-making pros. Chocolate comes in solid bars or different size chips and discs. If you're using chocolate bars, chop them into uniform pieces so they'll melt evenly.
