WrestleMania 42 is shrouded in uncertainty, and that’s certainly disappointing for fans eagerly awaiting the event.
Geno Mrosko, a dedicated pro wrestling enthusiast who has been reporting on the sport since he took on the role of Manager at Cageside Seats in 2011, highlights the current situation. As of the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, there’s only one match officially confirmed for WrestleMania 42, which is rapidly approaching—just over two months remain until it unfolds in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 18 and 19. The Royal Rumble champion, Roman Reigns, is set to challenge CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship, likely headlining the second night of this grand event.
But what remains uncertain is the rest of the lineup. Recent updates from Fightful Select indicate that the so-called "original plans" for the event have not been made clear, with many matches still under consideration. Liv Morgan, the winner of the Royal Rumble, has yet to announce whether she will confront Women’s World Champion Stephanie Vaquer or Women’s Champion Jade Cargill. The victor of the upcoming women’s Elimination Chamber match will then face the champion that Morgan does not choose. In addition, Drew McIntyre is set to put his WWE Championship on the line against whoever emerges victorious from the men’s Elimination Chamber match.
This leaves a vast portion of the card open to speculation. It raises the question of whether potential matchups, such as Seth Rollins facing Bron Breakker, were altered or if they were simply never planned in the first place. Fans might also expect to see AJ Lee involved in some capacity, but details have been scant since her notable appearance at Survivor Series late last year.
And what about other big names like Brock Lesnar, GUNTHER, Cody Rhodes, Jacob Fatu, Sami Zayn, and even Logan Paul? Their involvement remains a mystery.
As we await further developments, it’s evident that the lack of clarity regarding the majority of the WrestleMania card reflects the current state of creative planning within WWE. While Reigns and Punk are poised to deliver an engaging storyline based on their personal rivalry, fans naturally hope for more exciting matches to fill the remaining slots on the card. What do you think? Are you concerned about the direction WWE is heading, or do you believe they’ll pull together an incredible event in time?
