For individual users of Trados Studio 2022, cloud access formerly known as Trados Live Essential is now permanently included in your product license (subscription or perpetual) at no extra cost, giving you these capabilities:
- Secure cloud backup of your work
- Access to the online editor, letting you work from anywhere or easily collaborate with other translators
- If you need to prepare or create projects yourself you can do so from anywhere, including via our mobile app
- You can process projects in the cloud while working on another project in the desktop application
Previously, Trados Live Essential was free for one year only for perpetual license holders (though always an integral part of Studio's subscription license). It's now permanently free for all currently supported versions of Trados Studio, including Studio 2021.
Manager view is a brand-new Studio view that gives you a whole new way to work with projects and files, inspired by the user interface (UI) of our cloud platform.
With the new view, you can work with both projects and files in a more unified way, in a single window with a clean, modern UI that makes navigating between projects and files much more intuitive. The view also includes key file- and project-related analytics so that you've got everything you need in one place. With multi-window and multi-monitor support, it's very flexible in letting you work on and compare multiple projects at once.
See the Manager view (beta) in action here.
Should you wish to try out the new view, you can activate it by selecting the button ‘Enable Manager view (beta)’ above the ribbon in the Studio interface. Studio will restart and the new Manager view will appear alongside your existing projects and files views. You can toggle off this view in the same way.
For now, Manager view is available only as a beta release, which means it's still in a relatively early stage of development with limited functionality. It currently works with local file-based projects (support for cloud projects will come in time) and supports a small amount of project management functions (you won't be able to distribute project packages, for example). As a beta release it will work best for translators rather than project managers, but we'll be expanding its features and hoping to deliver a full release in the near future.

Trados Studio 2022 is the fully supported release of Trados Studio.
RWS continues to support Studio 2021 as the limited support release.
Following the release of Studio 2022, RWS has moved Trados Studio 2019 to an extended support period that will end on 31st December 2022, after which it will be moved to a retired state.

Yes, if your original license was for Studio 2021 Freelance/Professional, you will be able to run Studio 2021 and Studio 2022 on the same machine, as the license for Studio 2022 is a 'compound license'. For this to work, you will need to update Studio 2021 with the most recent CU* and it will then accept your new Studio 2022 license. Note that this is for Single license owners only and will not work for a Network license. Network licenses can be configured in such a way that multiple versions of Studio can be served by the same license server, since it can run multiple licenses for different Studio versions in parallel. Contact your local RWS representative for details.
*CU stands for cumulative update. At RWS we are constantly reviewing and improving our products and release enhancements and hotfixes as and when required. These are bundled into cumulative updates that are installed automatically using the AutoUpdate functionality in Trados Studio and MultiTerm. You will be notified automatically by the software when a cumulative update is available. For a full list of enhancements and fixes for Trados Studio 2021 SR2 to date, please click here.
The upgrade process is the same for all users owning a Single or Network license(s).

Yes, we offer full compatibility in terms of translation memory and bilingual files across Studio 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022.
Although translation memories and bilingual files are compatible across Studio versions from 2009 to 2022, as we continue to add more features, there are potential discrepancies in feature availability, word counts and file types when working in older versions of Studio.
Trados Studio 2022 no longer offers out-of-the-box support for legacy Trados file types including; ITD, TTX and Bilingual Workbench. If you are still working with these file types, please install the ‘Trados Compatibility and Migration Power Pack’ app from the RWS AppStore. The app is installed as an add-on and will enable you to open and work with projects that include such files. RWS recommends that you consider converting legacy file types to the latest .SDLXLIFF format.

Trados Studio is available in three different editions: Starter, Freelance and Professional. The reason behind having separate editions is freelance translators do not usually require all the functionality within the full Professional license.
To see the differences between the different editions, please visit this page.
Trados Studio 2022 supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. We recommend Windows 11.
As a minimum requirement, we recommend an Intel or compatible CPU-based computer with 4 GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1024x768.
For optimum performance, we recommend a 64-bit operating system, 16 GB RAM, an SSD drive and a recent Intel or compatible CPU. Full support for 4K hi-resolution screens is planned and will be implemented incrementally in future releases. You can find more information on how to deal with display issues in this KB article or by running an application from the RWS AppStore which implements a fix in the aforementioned KB article. Trados Studio 2022 uses .Net Framework 4.8.
