What is Vroom?
Vroom.com is an online car buying site with fixed prices. It specializes in selling used cars and has anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 vehicles available on its site. You can purchase one of Vroom’s vehicles online and have it delivered straight to your home.
Vroom is available from all 50 states; however, delivery is not available to Alaska or Hawaii. Each of the vehicles comes with a CarFax vehicle history report, and Vroom never sells vehicles that have been involved in accidents. Vroom’s strategy seems geared towards making car buying more convenient by offering clear prices, a streamlined customer experience, a complimentary 90-day limited warranty and one year of complimentary roadside assistance.
You can filter vehicles on Vroom by general features, such as make, model, mileage, year and body type, as well as special features like fuel efficiency or heated seats. From there, you can view pictures, specifications and vehicle history reports for the automobile of your choice. You can place a hold on any vehicle for 24 hours with a fully refundable $500 deposit.

How does Vroom work?
Vroom works by offering fixed prices on cars so buyers don’t have to haggle. Because Vroom doesn’t have to deal with the costs associated with traditional brick-and-mortar dealerships, it is able to pass more savings down to customers.
To buy from Vroom, you shop and set up financing entirely online. You have to pay a $500 deposit to hold the vehicle while you finalize your contract, though. Once the purchase is done, Vroom will deliver your car to your door 10 to 14 days later. It should already have its temporary tags, and you have seven days or 250 miles (whichever comes first) to make sure you like it.
Vroom fees and pricing
Vroom has set prices, meaning you don’t have to negotiate or haggle. The downside to this is that you have to accept whatever price it offers if you want the vehicle. However, you might notice many Vroom cars are offered for cheaper than those at traditional dealerships. This is because Vroom is theoretically able to forego many costs associated with typical brick-and-mortar dealerships.
Delivery fees typically cost $699, but you can pay $999 to have the vehicle delivered in an enclosed trailer for additional protection. Vroom also requires a $500 deposit to put a hold on the car while you’re working out the purchase contract.
Vroom financing
Vroom connects with a dozen lenders to find customers financing options. The entire application process takes less than 10 minutes, but it does require a formal credit check that may impact your credit score. Vroom’s maximum loan term is 72 months.
Although Vroom works with people that have weak credit, it might not be the best choice for those in financial trouble. However, if you have poor credit and decide to buy a car with Vroom, you can always refinance your loan later if your credit score improves.
Vroom policies
Before purchasing a car from Vroom, it’s important to understand its policies:
- Returns: You can return a Vroom car within seven days or 250 miles of delivery — whichever comes first. The car will be picked up for free, but the original shipping fee will not be refunded. You may also have to pay a $599 restocking fee.
- Trade-ins: Vroom accepts trade-ins. You just need to fill out some basic information to receive an offer. You have 10 days or 250 miles to accept it.
- Warranties: Vroom vehicles include a 90-day/6,000-mile limited warranty and roadside assistance for one year. Additional options include trip interruption coverage, towing reimbursement and rental car reimbursement.
- Vroom car qualifications: Every Vroom vehicle has a clean accident history and meets rigorous testing standards to ensure it is fit for sale.
Vroom FAQ
Where is Vroom located?
Vroom’s headquarters are in New York City. However, it also has corporate offices in Houston and Detroit.
Does Vroom negotiate?
No, Vroom does not negotiate prices, making for a haggle-free experience.
Does Vroom take trade-ins?
Vroom users can trade in cars before or after shopping for a new vehicle. Vroom suggests getting the trade-in appraised first because the old car’s value may affect financing, and if you appraise before buying, you will know how much money you can put down on a new car.
Is Vroom better than Carvana?
While Vroom and Carvana are quite similar, Carvana has a higher overall satisfaction rating on our site at the time of publishing.
How long does it take Vroom to deliver?
Most buyers receive their car within 14 days after Vroom finalizes the contract. Because the state of Massachusetts has unusual registration laws, delivery can take up to 21 days there, though.
Does Vroom charge sales tax?
Sales tax is not included in Vroom’s pricing. You will need to calculate the sales tax in your state of residence to set an accurate budget.
How does Vroom make money?
Vroom employs data scientists, tech engineers and supply experts to buy the cars at low prices. Because the company doesn’t have the overhead costs of traditional dealerships, it should be able to turn a profit by selling them to consumers without overcharging.
Does Vroom do a hard credit check?
Yes, Vroom performs a formal credit check, also known as a hard credit check, when you apply for financing. This can affect your credit score.
Is Vroom legit?
Vroom is legit, but it has received some negative attention due to delivery delays and other problems. Though the company offers competitive, no-haggle vehicle prices, its customer service might not fit everyone's needs for an online car buying platform.

I needed to purchase a car quickly as my current vehicle was stolen. I started my search on AutoTrader which presented the vehicle I wanted to purchase via Vroom. I originally submitted my interest in availability and waited 48 hrs without a response. I contacted Vroom directly and was routed to a sales rep. After running my credit and discussing finance options, I agreed to purchase the vehicle. I even put additional money down and my interest rate went up. The sales rep never responded to my email after our only call. Vroom sent numerous emails with sporadic updates and after I ACH’d the money I was told the car would take 14 days to deliver. This was never disclosed and I was on a recorded line to verify. The car was in the same state (CA) and located near San Diego. I’m located in Los Angeles.
I was assigned someone from customer service to help finalize the deal (absolute waste of time). I was updated 5 days after providing my deposit that the car was being delivered to a HUB about 1 hr from my house. After another 2 days passed I received an email stating the car would be delivered in 10 days. This is over their 14 day delivery promise. I have not been offered any compensation or acknowledgment of the delay. I’ve already received my first month payment notice and I don’t even have the car. I am shocked that anyone operates a business in this fashion. They are making interest on my money and I don’t have the asset. I still don’t have the vehicle as I write this review. Stay away - better to go to a dealer than deal with this hassle.

Vroom states they "inspect" vehicles prior to selling them. We've had a BMW x3 for about 30 days and it started shaking and having braking issues. Front and rear brakes are completely worn out and they will not repair it. The front brake pads and rotors are unsafe as they have less than 1mm of tread left. Vroom will sell you a car that is unsafe to drive and put you and your family at risk.

I was instantly approved upon running my credit check! They took my deposit with ease! Then magically, they do not finance cars in Pennsylvania. The dude was super nice who was gonna sell the car but they should make this well known if it indeed it is true. All worked up for nothing. Maybe it's good it did not happen.

This has been a nightmare! There is no communication to next steps. No call for pickup time and date. It took me calling 10 times to finally get someone to call me and pick up my car. Now they are saying there is an issue with the pay off statement. They are not doing their job by calling the lien holder. With a dealer this take 1 hour. With them it has taken me 4 weeks! I am beyond pissed and now am forced to follow through with the sale since they have my title.

The process is kind of slow, but the car was worth the wait. Problem though we already need an oil change after only a week having the car. What do they check before they send it to you? There should be certain things that should last longer than a month at least.

They owe me money and have stopped responding to my emails. I will never do business with Vroom again and nor should you. I sold my vehicle back to Vroom on 9/26/22. I have had to make well over two dozen phone calls and emails following up on the refund status for the Vehicle Service Contract (VSC) and GAP coverage I had purchased. It took 3 months to get the $1750 I was owed for the VSC refunded and I am still owed $617.32 for the GAP coverage. I confirmed with the 3rd party company that Vroom received my refund on 10/12/22 and they've just kept it.

I don't understand how this company can compete with a dealership. How can a dealership turn around the entire transaction in half a day, and Vroom takes up to 3 weeks? The ONLY reason I am a Vroom customer is that the vehicle my wife wants is not available in the city we live in (or nearby cities). This process is unorganized, and no one at the company seems to give a rip that I am dissatisfied. The sales rep I started the process with was very sweet but was uneducated about their products. This is not her fault, but obviously a reflection of the company's hiring and training. I have had to re-send the same documents on multiple occasions. It's hard to believe in 2023, this is the best they can do.

I don't have the greatest credit but I attempted to purchase a car on VROOM website. I was initially approved as the sales summary sent back to me was exactly what I wanted and applied for, except they also wanted $249 to hold the car I picked out while I sent in my documents. I thought to myself this is really stupid. So I applied for a DIFFERENT car, waited about 2 minutes to be approved and I was, the sales summary sent back to me was once again exactly what I wanted and applied for, I was so excited...The finance department set up terms of APR 5.9 with $200 down, finance charges calculated for a fixed amount of months and a monthly payment I could afford. I thought great! This time no "holding fee" involved. So I called to complete purchase, pay the down payment and receive my car.
Oh, of course not, after searching an hour for a car that I really liked and could afford, I called to pay my down payment agreed to, they switched the terms to $4800 down with new finance charges and higher monthly payment, mind you on the exact same sales summary like before, but with different numbers...While I was talking to them excitedly ready to pay my down payment of $200. The sales person claimed they could no longer do the first sales summary any longer and terms have changed. Mind you both sales summary were identical except the numbers changed. I sent my screen shot of my original sales summary to VROOM and threatened legal counsel. I see now, after some research they were found legally liable of deceptive practices. I'm done with VROOM.

I work with several warranty companies. This is the worst warranty company we have worked with. They would not pay out what they said. Our customer had to pay over double his deductible. We took a $175 hit. WOULD NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING.

I was looking to sell our 2017 Yaris iA, which has fewer than 11,000 miles on it. It is set so low I cannot get into or out of it with ease (arthritis has gotten much worse). I decided to check out Vroom to sell it online. Uploaded the title and some similar documents. They phoned me back shortly thereafter telling me my title was invalid, that a new title had been issued in January of 2022. The title I copied to them was the original 2018 title. There were never any liens on it and there has been no change of ownership. I told the rep who called (whose English was awful) that they were mistaken. She then told me they would cancel my account. After reading some reviews of Vroom online I think that was a blessing for me.
