Samsung's Galaxy S26 Series: A Closer Look at the Specs and Changes
The highly anticipated Galaxy S26 series is set to be unveiled by Samsung in the coming days, and newly leaked specifications offer a sneak peek at the key changes. While some may have hoped for dramatic upgrades, the reality appears to be a wave of incremental enhancements.
The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra will indeed receive improvements, but nothing stands out as an essential upgrade. The devices will be powered by Samsung's Exynos 2600 CPU in Europe, with US models featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, as expected. All models will boast a minimum of 12GB of RAM, with the S26 Ultra offering 16GB in more expensive configurations.
One area that won't see a significant change is the screen size. According to the leaked spec sheet, the Galaxy S26 will feature a 6.3-inch display, while the S26+ will have a 6.7-inch screen, contrary to initial rumors of a potential increase.
Samsung's Privacy Display for the S26 Ultra remains a mystery in the leak, but it is expected to have a 6.9-inch screen. All models will utilize Samsung's AMOLED 2X panels, with the Ultra model offering an enhanced resolution.
Wireless charging rates will be improved, with the S26 and S26+ supporting 15W, and the S26 Ultra capable of 25W. Wired fast charging will also be upgraded, with the S26 series offering 25W, 45W, and 60W charging speeds, respectively.
Battery capacities, however, seem to have remained largely unchanged. The only device with a notable boost is the base Galaxy S26, which will have a slightly larger 4,300mAh battery. The S26+ and S26 Ultra will stick to their respective 4,900mAh and 5,000mAh capacities.
Samsung is also making subtle adjustments to the camera array. The S26 and S26+ will see minor modifications to their ultra-wide and telephoto cameras, with reduced maximum apertures. The rear camera setup will consist of a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 10MP telephoto camera.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra, on the other hand, receives the most significant camera upgrade, albeit a minor one. The maximum aperture has been increased across the board, with the main 200MP camera boasting a max f/1.4 stop. It will also feature a 50MP telephoto camera and a 50MP ultra-wide lens.
As expected, all three phones will come pre-loaded with One UI 8.5, the latest version of Samsung's custom Android skin. This update follows Samsung's commitment to a new schedule for One UI releases, and while it may not be trend-setting, it will offer some improvements based on Android 16.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Galaxy S26 series, including potential camera features like variable aperture, which Samsung might introduce to mimic the iPhone's design.
