Rizal Park and Monument

The Rizal Monument is a memorial in Rizal Park in Manila, Philippines, designed to honor the executed Filipino nationalist José Rizal. The memorial consists of a standing bronze sculpture of Rizal with an obelisk set on a stone foundation inside which his remains are laid to rest, bearing his two famous novels "El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere."

The monument's perimeter is constantly patrolled by the Philippine Marine Corps' Marine Security and Escort Group, with the change of the guard being a regular routine. The precise position where Rizal was executed is about 100 m northwest of the memorial, and it is marked by life-size dioramas showing his final hours. The landmark is the most identifiable monument in Luneta. The Rizal Monument serves as a meaningful national heritage for Filipinos by commemorating Jose Rizal's valiant act for his homeland.

An exact replica of the Rizal Monument can be found in Madrid, Spain, at the intersection of Avenida de Las Islas Filipinas and Calle Santander.
