JustFoodForDogs, a California-based manufacturer of fresh, homemade dog food and treats, has voluntarily recalled all lots of 3 daily dog food meals due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
JustFoodForDogs Beef & Russet Potato, Fish & Sweet Potato, and Turducken dog food meals in all sizes with “Best By” lot code dates between 11/01/18 and 01/14/19 have been recalled.

These 3 products all contain green beans, which the company believe may be contaminated with L monocytogenes. This bacterial species can affect both animals ingesting the food and humans who may come in contact with contaminated animal feces.
All recalled products were distributed through 11 JustFoodForDogs locations in Southern California, 3 Pet Food Express locations in Southern California, and 10 Northern California Pet Food Express locations.
Listeria can cause listeriosis in dogs, the clinical signs of which may include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, muscular and respiratory signs, abortion, and even death. Humans infected with Listeria can have symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, aches, and fever, as well as more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, and even death.
No confirmed cases of listeriosis have been reported, but there have been reports diarrhea and vomiting in dogs that ate these foods. No Listeria infections in humans have been reported.
Until the contamination issue is resolved, JustFoodForDogs is making new recipes available of these 3 dog food diets without green beans.
