Why is Quicken slow? ›

If Quicken runs slowly when updating your accounts

There may be hidden accounts in the data file that are still trying to update. To view and Deactivate hidden accounts: Go to Tools > Account List (or Ctrl + A). Select the Show Hidden Accounts checkbox at the bottom of the Account List.

Click the File Menu, click New Quicken File. Follow instructions. Save the file to the same folder which holds your current Quicken data file, but do be sure to give it a new name. This way you will have your old data preserved in the (now old) data file.

Overall, Quicken is a powerful and robust tool for managing your finances. If you want to understand your money and plan for the future, Quicken might be the right fit for you. With that being said, our verdict is that Quicken is likely to be the best fit only for entrepreneurs, small businesses, and the self-employed.

Most of us here recommend NOT starting a new year or file. Just keep going in your current data file. You can run reports for the just the year you want. It's better to leave all your data and history together in one file and it should not affect performance.

To delete a data file

Quit the Quicken application. Go to the data file location and drag the file to the Trash (at the end of the Dock). If you have trouble locating your Quicken data file, refer to Learning about data files. This data file will remain in the Trash until you empty the Trash.

Quicken has much more functionality and can grow with you over time. It's also better than Mint if you're a small business owner or are managing rental properties.

Can I still use an old version of Quicken? ›

if your subscription expired before that new update, you won't be able to open your Quicken file. Not to worry, you can still use the version of Quicken you had at the time your Membership expired to open your data files and, for Quicken Deluxe and above, continue to use Quicken in a manual mode.

No. Quicken doesn't offer a perpetual license. I suppose that is because it is a consumer / retail program. You'll need to renew your subscription every year (although from time to time I believe that they offer subscriptions that may run longer than a year, but none are perpetual.

Resetting your Cloud data will erase your synced account information stored on our servers. That same data will become immediately inaccessible on your mobile devices, and all of the alerts you've set up using these accounts will stop.

If this issue occurs frequently

In the affected account, click the Settings icon in the bottom right corner of the screen. Go to the Downloads tab and, under Transaction Downloads, confirm Download all available transactions is enabled.

Try to open Quicken in Silent Mode (opening the program without opening a data file to view). To do this: Click the Start button and find Quicken. If Quicken opens, there may be an issue with the data file that is keeping it from allowing Quicken to open properly.
