The first number is the base colour and indicates how light or dark the colour is. 1.0 is black, 5.0 is light brown, 6.0 is dark blonde, 7.0 is medium blonde and 10 is the lightest blonde.

The difference between a neutral color (N) and a “double N” color (NN) is the concentration of the dye. 4N and 4NN are the same color only the NN version has a slightly higher concentration of dye. Another way to describe NN is an opaque version of N.

When people use the term "chocolate" or "mocha" brown, they usually mean Level 4 to Level 5 brown hair with red tones. If this is the color you want, then you're in luck, because this is possibly the easiest color to achieve. Getting chocolate brown hair will only be difficult if you are naturally very light blonde.
