Master KG had ended his contract with Open Mic Production after several productive years with the record label.

Prior to his exit, the signs were obvious he was about to leave. The songster had announced the founding of his own record label, Wanitwamos Entertainment.

With his exit, he follows in the steps of Nomcebo Zikode, who had left the record label last year and joined Sony Music. She had claimed the record label owed her money for “Jerusalema.”

The said song had Master KG and Nomcebo on it. It was the biggest hit from both musicians to date. Interestingly, the song had also led to a serious division between both artists, over sharing of royalties, leading them to embark on different tours around the world to promote it, Master KG using Zanda Zakuza to sing Nomcebo’s verse.

Anyway, with his exit from Open Mic, Master KG continues what is almost a tradition in the industry: artists striking it big and exiting record labels to which they are signed, and opening their own record labels after.
