Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio brought us to tears in their 1990s film Titanic, and 25 years since the film debuted it seems the Titanic stars are as fond of each other as ever.
Speaking about when her and the fellow Oscar-winning actor reunited recently, after three years apart, the 46-year-old actor revealed that it was an emotional moment for the pair.
'I couldn’t stop crying,' Winslet recently told The Guardian. 'Like so many friendships globally, we’ve missed each other because of Covid. He’s my friend, my really close friend. We’re bonded for life.'
Just over a decade after they starred in Titanic, Winslet and DiCaprio went on to play a seemingly perfect, but realistically troubled couple in the post-war romantic drama Revolutionary Road.
In her interview with the Guardian, the mother-of-three stressed how far her and DiCaprio have come as friends over the years.
'I’ve known him for half my life,' the British actor said, before explaining that her and DiCaprio haven't been able to meet up due to the pandemic, with her based in the UK, while he live in the US. As a result, Winslet said they haven't had the opportunity to 'have dinner or grab a coffee and a catch up'.
Winslet, who has also played leading roles in films such as 2008's The Reader and the hit 2021 crime drama Mare of Easttown, also discussed her and DiCaprio's experiences on the set of Titanic.
When it came to talking about the reportedly arduous production of the film and the matter of DiCaprio being miserable on set, Winslet said: 'I remember! I remember that he was! It wasn’t pleasant for any of us, but we were all in it together.
'Though he had way more days off than I ever bloody did. I guess I was raised to be grateful and just get on with it. I didn’t feel it was my right to be miserable.'
During an interview with Access Hollywood a year after Titanic's release, Winslet said she initially thought her co-star's good looks might distract her during filming.
'I did think to myself beforehand, it's going to be hard, because you know, what if I really fancy him?' she said. 'And I so thought I was going to, because he is absolutely gorgeous.'
After rumours of a romance between the pair surfaced following the film's release, both confirmed they were just close friends.
Winslet did, however, express her love for DiCaprio when accepting her Best Actress award at the 2009 Golden Globes. At the time, she said the sweetest thing about her co-star while holding back tears.
'Leo, I'm so happy I can stand here and tell you how much I love you, and how much I've loved you for 13 years,' she told her friend. 'I love you with all my heart, I really do.'
The true extent of their relationship was confirmed even further as DiCaprio reportedly walked Winslet down the aisle when she married her husband Edward Abel Smith in 2012.
When previously speaking of her and DiCaprio's bond after filming Titanic, Winslet told People in 2017: 'I walked away with one of the greatest friendships of my life in my back pocket, which is Leo.'
We couldn't love their friendship more.
