Longest word in Japanese[edit | edit source]

In Japanese, words can be made up of several ideograms. There is no space between the ideograms so new words appear after adding a new one. As a result, the length of a word theoretically has no limit.

Example[edit | edit source]

A funny phrase in japanese is “toragahitowokamoutosurutokinounarinow” 虎が人を噛もうとするときのうなり声。

It is 37 letters long and is comprised of a 17 syllables. It is a very odd phrase, as it is defined as “the growl a tiger makes when it is about to about to bite someone”. Now, this isn't onomatopoeia, it's a phrase referring to the onomatopoeia.
