The latest research, published in Evolutionary Psychology, has found that we make ourselves more appealing to the opposite sex just by changing the way we tilt our faces.

Women are more considered more beautiful if they angle their head forwards so they have to look up on contact with another person.

Men are thought to be more manly when they tilt their head back, meaning they have to look downwards.

Why this makes us better looking seems a bit baffling to us a Red but apparently it’s all to do with the perception of height.

A forward tilted head recreates the way a taller man would see her and the backwards tilt of a man mimics the angle a shorter woman would view him, both making women and men seem more attractive.

Dr Darren Burke and Dr Danielle Sulikowski from the University of Newcastle, Australia, carried out the research using computer generated male and female faces and tilted them in different ways.

They then asked volunteers to rate the faces in terms of attractiveness, felinity and masculinity.

‘Human facial attractiveness from an evolutionary perspective has been extensively studied,’ says Dr Burke.

‘We investigated whether looking at a face from different perspectives as a result of the height differences between men and women influenced perceived masculinity or femininity. The research found the way we angle our faces affects our attractiveness to the opposite sex.’

Strange....but true. So, do you tilt to the left or the right is our next question?
