Before you begin
There are a few things to understand before you move your data file:
- If you want to move your file to a different version of Quicken, (such asWindows to Mac or Mac to Windows) you'll need to convert the file. For steps to convert, click here
- You don't need to buy another copy of Quicken to move your data file, but the same version of Quicken should be installed on the computer you're moving your data file to:

- We recommend to avoid moving Quicken data files often. If a data file needs to be viewed on different computers regularly, we suggest using Quicken on the Web instead. Subscription Release users can access Quicken on the Web on any computer to review accounts, without needing to install Quicken on additional computers or move data files.
