Using Quicken for Mac 7.2.1 and Mac OS 13.4
I am manually down loading transactions From one Pen Fed Account using QFX transfer to the corresponding account file on Quicken. After a recent release I found that a new account file was created with the recent transactions.
How do I merge the new and old files and download the data only to the merged file only

I'm not sure why a new account would be created if you already had the old account connected for QFX import.
If it happens again, here's what I'd do: go to the old account and select all transactions. Drag and drop them to the new account in the sidebar, effectively merging both accounts into the new one. The old account will then be empty and you can delete it. Check the new account for duplicate transactions that may have been imported twice. The new account should continue to receive new imports. Rename the new account as desired. Be sure to back up before starting this procedure in case anything goes wrong.

Before I attempt to answer, I want to clarify something. From your description, it sounds like you may mean that the transactions are downloading to a different account within the same Quicken file.
A file is a Quicken database that resides on in a macOS file (seen in the Finder). A file can contain several accounts, which are viewed in their account registers (lists of transactions) which are viewed by selecting an account register in the sidebar.
To view a different file, you would need to select menu File > Open Recent to switch between files. To switch between account registers, you simply click one in the sidebar. Which is it? Terminology matters.

You are correct. The transactions are being downloaded to a different account within the same file.
I have subsequently deleted the Quicken created new account and zeroed out the balance , then tried downloading manually all the affected transactions to the established account. This seem to be working well.
do you have any thoughts as to why Quicken would create a new account instead of assigning the data to the existing account . I would like to try to avoid this situation in the future. I do have have about four years of data on that account and Pen Federal does not permit automatic downloads from Quicken.
