How can I convert back to a previous nonsubscription Quicken? (2024)

I mistakenly bought Quicken Deluxe last year. I have had Quicken for as long as I can remember. I do not need the subscription version since I do not and can not use all the bells and whistle. I do everything manually. I want to get back to Quicken 13 I believe but since I updated can I go back? The subscription is way too expensive, a lot more than I paid to begin with.

You cannot go back to Quicken 2013 with the existing data file.

If you want to go back to Quicken 2013 you will have to find a backup of that file before you converted to the subscription and load that one after of course uninstalling Quicken subscription and reinstalling Quicken 2013.

If you can find Quicken 2016 or 2017. These require a Quicken ID, which is free, but no subscription, and are able to read the data file from Quicken subscription.

I found the Quicken 15 exe file in my download file. I've had 2 major computer crashes since 2018 losing a lot of data. I don't believe I purchased a newer version than 15. I have a number of backup files saved but not sure if those formats will be compatible. How do I tell which backup file is prior to June 2020 when I bought the subscription version?

Thank you. I think I can answer my own question now. I appreciate your quick response.

Just to be clear. The cutoff is Quicken 2016. When Quicken was owned by Intuit, Intuit would change the format of the data file every year. This resulted in the fact that an older year version of Quicken can't open a data file that the newer year version of Quicken created. When Quicken Inc took over Quicken they changed that policy and have kept Quicken's data file backwards compatible, and that switch in policy was in Quicken 2016.

But if you can install your old version and find a data file you can open and use then you can stay with that version. If you want to reinstall an old version you will need to update it first. Quicken doesn't have the old update patches but One of the SuperUsers has posted the update patches for older versions (2000 and newer) of Quicken

I'm staying on Quicken 2013 Premier for Windows.

I would like to go back to Quicken 2017 from the subscription version. I purchased it from Intuit and downloaded it from their website. Would there be a copy of the software somewhere on my computer or maybe on one of my backups? How do I find it? If I install it, would it delete the subscription version?

Next question if I am able to find 2017: After I install it and update it from the patches provided by superuser quicknperlwiz, then can I just restore my current data file from the subscription version?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

@adrian you would need the install program, and apply the latest Mondo patch, but there is an extra problem that started about 6 months ago. The login for the Quicken Id isn't working for presubscription versions. There is a workaround, but only for people that have access to a machine that has a working version of pre-Quicken subscription version running so that they can copy the Quicken.ini file out of it.
