Hailey Preuss, a swimming sensation with incredible versatility, has made a bold move by verbally committing to the University of Pennsylvania for the 2026-2027 season. But what does this mean for her future, and how did she get here?
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps, a proud sponsor of SwimSwam's College Recruiting Channel, is thrilled to celebrate Preuss' achievement. For many swimmers, representing their college is a dream, and Preuss is well on her way to making it a reality.
Preuss, currently a senior at Menlo Atherton High School, has been a standout performer in multiple swimming disciplines. She excels in breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, and individual medley (IM), showcasing her talent with Alto Swim Club.
Her recent performances have been exceptional, with personal bests in six out of eight events in the past year. The most notable improvements were in the 100-meter freestyle, 200-meter butterfly, and 200-meter freestyle, with significant time drops. But here's where it gets impressive: she also managed to shave off seconds in the 500-meter freestyle, 200-meter breaststroke, and 200-meter IM, proving her all-around prowess.
At the 2025 Winter Junior Championships - West, Preuss demonstrated her potential by placing 16th and 25th in the 400-meter IM and 200-meter breaststroke, respectively. And this is the part most people miss—she did this while also competing in multiple other events, showcasing her versatility.
Preuss' commitment to the University of Pennsylvania is a significant step, as she joins a prestigious Division I swimming program in the Ivy League. And the controversy? Well, it's not a guaranteed admission, as Ivy League coaches can only offer their support in the process. But with her impressive track record, she's sure to make waves in the swimming community.
What do you think about Preuss' decision? Is she destined for greatness at Penn? Share your thoughts in the comments, and let's celebrate this rising star's journey!
