The Search Continues: 'Very Loved' Gold Coast Fisherman Still Missing After Five Days at Sea
The search for Ash Haigh, a beloved fisherman from the Gold Coast, has entered its fifth day, with no signs of the 44-year-old yet. Mr. Haigh was reported missing last Thursday night after he failed to return to the Runaway Bay Marina as planned. His boat, found drifting 50 kilometers southeast of the Gold Coast Seaway, was in good condition, but no one was on board.
The emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) was located off Ballina, New South Wales, on Saturday afternoon, but no further signs of Mr. Haigh have been found since. Despite the deployment of four marine rescue boats and one aircraft, the search has been scaled back to a recovery operation.
Mr. Haigh's sister, Lauren Haigh, described him as a 'very loved and special father, husband, brother, son, and friend to many.' She added, 'He was my first best friend growing up. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in searching to bring him home.'
Queensland Police remains in contact with Mr. Haigh's family, and the search continues, covering 1,800 square nautical miles between the Gold Coast and Yamba. The community's support for the Haigh family is evident, with many expressing their love and prayers for Mr. Haigh's safe return.
