Sumeru ia the first new full region to be added to the game since Inazuma was introduced in Patch 2.0. The new region also prominently features the new Dendro element.

  • This guide covers Sumeru specific quests and information. See the Version 3.0 Guide and Version 3.1 Guide for more specific details about everything introduced in the newest updates.

Sumeru Map

The Sumeru region is west of The Chasm. For more details, see How to Get to Sumeru.

Great Red Sand Map

Great Red Sand is the large desert to the west of Sumeru's rainforest. The Eremites call this land their home, and remnants of a long-forgotten civilization lie buried beneath the sun-scorched dunes.

Sumeru Characters and History

HoYoverse is introducing a big batch of new characters in Genshin Impact 3.0 and beyond, including several new playable characters. These all play a significant role across the Sumeru Archon quests. These explore the conflict between those who control knowledge and those who want to protect the Dendro Archon, and events start coming to a head in Chapter 3, Act I.

Genshin Impact 3.0 Characters

The version 3.0 update, the first in the Sumeru region, added these playable characters:

  • Tighnari (five-star Dendro archer)
  • Collei (four-star Dendro archer)
  • Dori (four-star Electro claymore user)

Check out our guides for Tighnari materials, Collei materials, and Dori materials if you managed to pull any of these new characters!

Genshin Impact 3.1 Characters

The following new characters appear in Genshin Impact 3.1:

  • Nilou (five-star Hydro sword user)
  • Cyno (five-star Electro polearm user)
  • Candace (four-star Hydro polearm user)

Other Sumeru Characters

HoYoverse's Sumeru overview trailer introduced several other characters with Visions, which hopefully indicates they will be playable at some point.

  • Lesser Lord Kusanali, known as Nahida - the Dendro Archon who will debut in Genshin Impact 3.2
  • Alhaitham
  • Dehya

Sumeru Lore

Described as "All Rainforests and Desert" by Liben and just "Desert" by Dainsleif, Sumeru has been mentioned frequently by several Genshin Impact characters: for example, Lisa finished her studies in Sumeru before coming back to Mondstadt.

During the cataclysm, a major plot point in Genshin Impact where chaos and disaster ensued, the former Dendro Archon was slain when the gods attacked Khaenri'ah. Shortly after, the new Dendro Archon, the God of Wisdom, was born and took over.

After this, the sages of Sumeru abandoned all worldly desires and replaced them with their pursuit of esoteric wisdom. Nazafarin, a scholar who hails from Sumeru and appeared in Spices From the West event, claims that a Sumerian faction of mercenaries called Eremites contains members with bizarre and formidable powers.

Sumeru Key Locations

Sumeru is a vast location spanning the rainforest, several cities, and even underground areas.

  • Port Ormos

Port Ormos is a bustling harbor town and the center of commerce in Sumeru - the legitimate kind and back alley exchanges, both of which usually have Dori involved. It's a key location in Sumeru's lore, but outside a few quests, you won't need to visit Port Ormos much outside the main Archon Quest storyline just yet.

  • Sumeru City

This is the seat of knowledge in Sumeru, the center of the Archon's former power and the site of the Akademiya. Sumeru City is where Chapter 3, Act 2 unfolds as the Sabzerusz Festival gets underway. Expect plenty of scheming from the Fatui and the power-hungry Akademiya scholars.

  • Vanarana

This is more of a region than a location, in the northwest of Sumeru. This is where you find a number of World Quests, so once you wrap up this update's Archon Quests, be sure to check it out for even more insight into the region and its people.

Vanarana is tied to the Aranyaka World Quest, which is vital for unlocking some of Sumeru's underground areas.

Vanarana is also where you find the Tree of Dreams.

  • Aaru Village

West of the rainforest lies Aaru Village, an unassuming hamlet nestled in the desert's rocky cliffs. Genshin Impact Chapter 3 Act 3 takes you here, and this is also where you begin Golden Slumber.

  • The Mausoleum of King Deshret

This is another location key to Genshin Impact's story, but you won't unravel the full mystery unless you complete Golden Slumber and Dual Evidence.

  • Dune of Elusion

Of the many Dunes you discover in the desert, the Dune of Elusion is one of the most important. Here, you find the Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network boss, whose materials you need for Cyno and other 3.1 characters.

Sumeru Local Specialties

Sumeru has several new local specialties to hunt down if you plan on ascending any of the new characters. The first batch is specific to the rainforest region, though future updates will likely add new local specialties in the desert.

  • Nilotpala Lotus (Tighnari material)
  • Kalpalata Lotus(Dori material)

  • Rukkhashava Mushroom (Collei material)
  • Padisarah (Nilou material)
  • Scarabs(Cyno material)

Scarabs are challenging to track done, but our Scarab locations guide makes the process much smoother for you.

  • Redcrest (Candace material)

Other Sumeru Materials

Genshin Impact 3.0 also introduces a handful of recipe materials, some of which you can gather seeds for and grow in your Serenitea Pot.

  • Sumeru Rose
  • Zaytun Peach
  • Harra Fruit
  • Viparyas

Sumeru Bosses

There are plenty of new bosses in Sumeru! The below are regular World Bosses - no weekly boss just yet - and provide essential materials for ascending new characters from the region.

  • Jadeplume Terrorshroom
  • Electro Regisvine
  • Algorithm of Semi-Intransient Matrix of Overseer Network
  • Aeonblight Drake

Sumeru World Quests

  • Dream Nursery
    • Aranyaka Part 1
    • Aranyaka Part 2
  • Varuna Gatha
  • Agnihotra Sutra

Sumeru Story Quests

New 5-star characters means new story quests, and so far, Sumeru has three of them.

  • Vulpes Zerda Chapter: Act One (Tighnari Story Quest)
  • Lupus Aureus Chapter: Act One (Cyno Story Quest)
  • Lotos Somno Chapter: Act One (Nilou Story Quest)

Sumeru Shrines of Depths

Genshin Impact 3.0 added four new Shrines of Depths in the Sumeru rainforest.

advertisem*nt

  • Chatrakham Cave - North of Sumeru City
  • Ruins of Dahri - Southwest Apam Woods
  • Port Ormos - On a hill northwest of the port
  • Vanarana - West of Vanarana, on the edge of the desert

As always, you need a Key of Depths to open a Shrine of Depths. These come from offering Dendroculus to the Sumeru Statue of the Seven and from raising the level of Sumeru's Tree of Dreams.

Check out our full Sumeru Shrines of Depths locations guide for specific details!

Sumeru Domains

Version 3.0 added seven new Domains.

  • The Coordinates of Sun and Rain Domain
  • Spire of Solitary Enlightenment Domain
  • Fragment of Childhood Dreams Domain
  • Dark Valley Domain
  • Under the Umbrella's Shade Domain
  • Steeple of Ignorance Domain
  • Tower of Abject Pride Domain

We're still working on unlocking them all, so check back for specifics soon!

Dendro Sigils and How to Get Them

Dendro Sigils are the same as Electro and Geo Sigils. You can exchange them for goods at certain locations, and, more importantly, you can offer them to the Tree of Dreams to increase its level and receive rewards, similar to the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma.

The main ways to get Dendro Sigils are:

  • Opening chests in Sumeru
  • Raising Sumeru Statue of the Seven levels
  • Completing one-time Domains

Sumeru Tree of Dreams

The Tree of Dreams is in Vanarana, northeast of the forest and west of Chatrakam Cave. There, you can offer 35 Dendro Sigils at a time to raise its level and receive rewards, similar to the Sacred Sakura in Inazuma and the Frostbearing Tree in Dragonspine.

Every time you raise the Tree of Dreams' level, you get:

  • 200 Adventure EXP
  • 10 Mystic Enhancement Ore
  • 50,000 Mora

Check out our Tree of Dreams guide for the full list of rewards at each level!.

Sumeru Fishing Spots

Sumeru is home to several fishing spots with new fish as well. The Sumeru Fishing Association is on the northern outskirts of Port Ormos, and you can exchange your catches for several items, including the new End of the Line bow.

Our Genshin Impact Fishing guide has all the Sumeru fishing spots and what you can get from each.
