Like many aspirants, she initially struggled with distractions, especially from social media platforms that constantly pulled her attention away. Recognizing this growing obstacle, she took the bold step of deleting all her social media accounts on January 15, 2021, a move that many might find extreme but which proved pivotal for her focus and discipline.
With social media out of the picture, Geetika ramped up her study hours significantly. However, she soon realized that other common distractions—festivals, family gatherings, and social events—were also eating into her valuable preparation time. Demonstrating remarkable self-control, she attended her last family function on February 18, 2021, and then fully committed to her study plan. To keep herself organized and motivated, she bought a whiteboard in April 2021, which she used to map out her study schedule and track progress—a simple yet effective strategy that many beginners can adopt.
Later that year, Geetika made a strategic move to Delhi, seeking a more conducive environment for her studies. This transition wasn’t easy; she faced considerable stress due to family issues. Yet, this phase marked a turning point as she began prioritizing her mental and physical well-being alongside her academic goals. When the UPSC prelims were postponed because of the second wave of COVID-19, she returned to Nainital in May 2021, using the extra time to refine her preparation.
After finally taking the prelims on October 10, 2021, Geetika immediately shifted her focus to the mains exam, starting her dedicated preparation on October 13. This quick pivot highlights the importance of adaptability and time management in cracking UPSC, where the journey doesn’t end with prelims but requires sustained effort.
In January 2022, her family relocated to Dehradun, but Geetika chose to return to Delhi to continue her studies and take the mains exam. Post-exam, she went back to Dehradun and immersed herself in rigorous mock interviews to gear up for the UPSC personality test in Delhi. This phase underscores how mock interviews can be invaluable in building confidence and refining communication skills, which are crucial for the final stage of the UPSC selection process.
The moment of triumph came on May 30, 2022, when the UPSC results were declared, and Geetika secured an impressive 239th rank. To celebrate this milestone, she visited Haridwar with her family, marking the end of a challenging yet rewarding journey. Today, as an IFS officer, she has already made her mark by participating in significant events like the recent G20 Summit.
