Elder Scrolls Online: How To Hide The UI (2024)

Sometimes, the UI in The Elder Scrolls Online just gets in the way. Turning off the HUD in ESO is easier than one might think, though.

The world design of most MMOs is unparalleled, allowing developers to create vast landscapes that in turn form beautiful surroundings and sights that draw players' eyes. The Elder Scrolls Online is full of beautiful locations, but it's hard to fully appreciate much of it when the HUD and UI take up most of the screen.

Elder Scrolls Online is notable as an MMO for allowing players to go into first-person mode, which can help with angles and image quality a lot. Without turning off the UI, though, it can be hard to show off your latest costume or a particularly beautiful vista without a menu or resource bars taking up space.

The ability to turn off the UI in Elder Scrolls Online is not an action that is automatically available to all players – it's just not something many players will take advantage of, so it makes sense not to bind it to a specific key. The setting is still changed the same way as other inputs in the mapping screen.

Head to the main menu and navigate to Controls. Head to the Keybindings tab, and navigate to the bindings associated with the User Interface. The option to hide the Hud should be listed under this category. Simply choose a keyboard or controller button you aren't using, then assign the Hide UI action to this key. From now on, when you press this key, all UI elements will toggle on or off!

The UI of ESO is not very overwhelming or particularly obstructive, especially compared to many MMOs out there. However, there are things a player can do to improve the HUD's use of space. The option to Scale the UI by a specific amount can be turned on and adjusted to make text, resource bars, trackers, and the compass take up much less space on-screen.

Additionally Elder Scrolls Online has a built-in modding system that allows player-made mods to change the game's UI. There are a variety of mods out there that make the HUD easier to look at without sacrificing information. Be careful, though, as many mods will actually increase the amount of clutter on-screen. It's best to try a few out and see what works with your playstyle.

The Elder Scrolls Online is available for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S.
