It's a sports comedy based on real events taking a lot of liberties in telling Eddie's story. That makes for a ride that is as manipulative and predictable as it is enjoyable, thanks to a great leading man and a direction that pretty much knew what it set out to do. Sure, some parts could have been a bit less silly and with more basis in reality, but the result is still lovable and touching fun.

It's a 100 minute cliche, but it's also impossible not to fall for its charm.

Eddie the Eagle was directed by Dexter Fletcher and stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman) as Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards. Based on a true story, the movie tells Eddie's triumphant story on his path to competing in the Winter Olympics for ski jumping. The optimistic titular character is coached by a former American skier, played by Hugh Jackman (X-Men), Wolverine).Like every feel-good movie, you have to have the right mindset going into a viewing. Egerton's overly cheerful character could easily come off as annoying, but I really enjoyed his personality and dedication. Jackman portrays the stereotypical grumpy and reluctant coach, but his chemistry with Egerton feels easy. The soundtrack fits the time period really well (the movie takes place in the 80s), and there is plenty of humor throughout.Again, this would be an easy movie to dislike if you aren't mentally prepared for the cliches presented. Eddie is continuously given obstacles to overcome, and he always just BARELY beats them, conveniently. Some of the characters, especially Jackman, could have been given more dynamic development. Really, the whole movie is ridiculous, but it's good fun.If you enjoy these types of movies, definitely give Eddie the Eagle a watch. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments throughout, and Egerton's charm goes a long way.Final grade: B-Ben

A gentle story that has a grand story that everyone should watch. Inspirational story with strong characters and cast, Jackman shines above everyone. Not the film that I had expected which is a good thing, one of the best bio films for a very long time. one for the family.
