My method is special for two reasons - it's made from freshly made, from scratch, apple juice (not the typical store-bought apple juice or apple cider) and it's made using my favorite kitchen too, the Instant Pot.

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Instant Pot Spiced Apple Cider is so easy to make from scratch! It's delicious, perfectly spiced, maple sweetened and only takes 10 minutes cook time!

Ingredients

  • 6 organic medium size apples, core removed, quartered
  • 2 ½ cups (or more) filtered water
  • Zest of organic orange
  • Juice of organic orange, strained
  • ¼ cup real maple syrup
  • 1 inch chunk fresh ginger, sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 7 whole cloves

Instructions

  1. Add apple pieces and 2 ½ cups water to a high powered blender. Blend until fully combined and liquified. Pour apple juice through a fine mesh strainer into a large mixing bowl or pitcher. Repeat straining 3 times to remove all of the pulp.
  2. Pour the strained apple juice into the stainless steel Instant Pot. Add the orange juice to the Instant Pot. If the liquid volume does not reach the 5 cup mark on the Instant Pot, add more water until it hits the 5 cup mark. Add the orange zest, maple syrup, sliced ginger, cinnamon sticks and cloves. Press "Saute" and bring to a boil. When the apple cider starts to boil, turn the Instant Pot off by pressing "Keep Warm/Cancel". Put the Instant Pot lid on making sure the seal valve is closed. Press "Manual" then "-" until you reach 10 minutes. The Instant Pot will say "On" and will begin to count down to 10 once the pressure builds. When the Instant Pot beeps, it's done. Turn the Instant Pot off by pressing"Keep Warm/Cancel". Let it naturally pressure release for about 15 minutes until the silver dial next to the steam value drops. With an oven mitt open the steam value just incase any leftover steam needs to escape. Using an oven mitt, open the lid and VERY CAREFULLY ladle or pour the super hot spiced apple cider through a fine mesh strainer.Enjoy immediately in your favorite mug.

If you're not ready to drink the spiced apple cider right away and would like to keep it hot, turn onthe Instant Pot warming settingby pressing the "Keep Warm/Cancel" button.

Storage:Store leftover spiced apple cider in an airtight container {like a mason jar} in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.

    This looks so cozy and delicious. I like apple cider, but usually can't have more than a few sips because it doesn't sit well with my stomach. Not sure why. Maybe too much sugar from just using apple juice in the commercial ones? I think yours looks worth trying, though.

      Oh no! Sorry to hear that. I actually used to have that problem with store bought ones, I'm not sure why. I also couldn't have raw apples for many years, but I seem to be okay now that I've worked on my gut health a bit more.

    I'm curious about why you sauté the mixture and then pressure cook it... is there a reason why you don't only pressure cook it?

      Hi Lindsay, you can skip that step if you'd like, it will just take longer for the pot to come to pressure. When something is that liquid-y in the pot, I like to use the saute feature to help bring the food to pressure quicker, otherwise the cook time takes longer. 🙂

    I made this and it came out tasting very much like orange and not very appley at all. Is there a reason that the orange needs to be in there or could it be omitted for those that don’t like orange flavor?

      That's strange, the orange flavor should not be strong, it should only be a background flavor. But yes, of course, if you don't care for orange you can omit it. This of course will change the end yield. You can always add more apples.
