Can you shoot a buck with a DMAP tag in pa? ›

Hunters may not use DMAP permits to harvest an antlered deer. Hunters may obtain up to two DMAP permits per designated area, and are required to file a harvest report regardless of whether they kill a deer.

How do I report my DMAP hunting activity? Reporting is mandatory for all DMAP harvest permits, regardless of harvest success. A hunter can report their DMAP activities using www.huntfish.pa.gov or by sending in a postage-paid report card that can be found in the Hunting and Trapping Digest.

DMAP permits cost $10.97 for Pennsylvania residents and $35.97 for nonresidents. They can be purchased from any license issuing agent or online at www.huntfish.pa.gov. Hunters must identify the DMAP unit number when purchasing a permit.

Pennsylvania's Deer Management Assistance Program (DMAP) permits become available on Monday, August 12, 2024, during the third round of antlerless license sales. You can purchase a DMAP permit at huntfish.pa.gov.

How does the DMAP permit program work? DMAP coupons are issued to an enrolled property owner/lessee on the basis of one-per five acres of cultivated land or one-per fifty acres of forestland. Property owners distribute their DMAP coupons to licensed hunters with a current PA resident or non-resident hunting license.

In most of the state, hunters are required to find bucks that have at least three points on one side. In Wildlife Management Units 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and 2D, along the western fringe of the state, hunters need to find bucks with three points, including the main beam, on one side, but not including the brow tine.

Reporting is Mandatory Regardless of Harvest for

DMAP (Deer Management Assistance Permits), whether or not you have harvested a deer, report within 10 days of the last possible date of harvest.

Resident Adult Hunting License ($20.97): Issued to bona fide residents of Pennsylvania ages 17 through 64. This license includes one antlered deer tag, one fall turkey tag, one spring turkey tag and small game hunting privileges for one license year.

An Agricultural Deer Control permit authorizes landowners or lessees to enlist the aid of hunters for the purpose of removing deer causing damage on agricultural lands, outside of the regular deer hunting seasons. The permit is valid from August 1 to September 15 and February 1 to April 15, excluding Sundays.

HUNTING ON PUBLIC LAND

These lands include State Game Lands, State Forests and Parks, the Allegheny National Forest, and other public properties. While public hunting areas exist across most of the state, the northern tier offers the greatest amount of public land, including vast wilderness areas.

In most WMUs, a buck with three points to a side, counting the brow tine, is legal to harvest. But in WMUs 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B and 2D, a buck must have three points not counting the brow tine.

First, commissioners preliminarily approved a rules change eliminating the requirement a hunter tag one deer before shooting another. Meaning, a hunter with the proper tags who sees two deer in a group could shoot both at the same time.

You cannot use a buck tag on a doe with anything but a flintlock license, using a flintlock, during flintlock season. Pg 42 of the digest, Bottom of left column. With a flintlock license, using a flintlock in flintlock season, you can use your back (buck) tag on an antlerless deer anywhere in the state.

In order to participate in the AG Tag program as a hunter, an individual must: Purchase a valid hunting license, unless eligible for an exemption under Section 2706 of Title 34. Contact a participating landowner and receive up to four coupons to be used at the landowner's property.
