Hollywood is stepping back into the ring! Following the disappointing box office performance of 'The Smashing Machine,' a new MMA film is on the horizon, promising a captivating story. This time, the focus shifts to Bryony Tyrell, a fighter with a truly unique background.
This upcoming movie, titled Killa Bee, is set to chronicle Tyrell's incredible journey from the world of nursing to the unforgiving realm of professional fighting. The lead role will be portrayed by none other than Star Wars star Daisy Ridley, according to Deadline. The film will be brought to life by writer Ruth Sewell, director Kenton Oxley, and producers Knockout Productions, in collaboration with Picture Perfect and Moviehouse Entertainment.
The biopic promises to delve into Tyrell's remarkable life, showcasing her transformation from a mother of two with a master's degree in nursing and a degree in molecular biology, working in the ICU, to one of Britain's top cage fighting prospects. But here's where it gets controversial... the film's creators are working closely with Tyrell herself.
Producer Ruth Sewell emphasized the collaborative approach: "Bryony Tyrell has been involved in the project with Kenton Oxley since the beginning and is supportive of her inspirational story being brought to the screen. She is actively consulting on the project. The scripting process has been shaped in close dialogue with Bryony’s family, ensuring emotional truth and creative integrity at every turn. Director Kenton, a longtime friend of Bryony’s since their school days, brings a deeply personal lens to the story — one rooted in trust, history, and fierce creative loyalty.”
Daisy Ridley also expressed her enthusiasm for the role, stating, "Bryony’s story is one of extraordinary courage and resilience. I was deeply moved by her emotional and empowering journey. I can’t wait to bring her spirit to the screen.”
Tyrell's professional MMA career saw her start with an impressive 3-0 record before finishing with an overall record of 4-6-1. She even made a single appearance in Bellator, facing future title challenger Denise Kielholtz. She also faced UFC fan favorite Molly McCann in Cage Warriors back in 2018, where she suffered a second-round knockout. And this is the part most people miss... the film aims to capture not only the physical battles but also the emotional and personal struggles that shaped Tyrell's journey.
