MotorTrend has greenlit a sixth season of the TV show “Garage Squad,” a car-makeover series that’s filmed in the Chicago area, and announced that Cristy Lee is replacing Heather Storm as co-host.
“Entering Season 6 is exciting especially with the addition of Cristy. Her years of in-depth, ‘how-to’ automotive experience coupled with expertise as an interviewer/commentator in the automotive genre only stands to enhance the ‘Garage Squad’ format,” David Lee, vice president of production and development for MotorTrend TV, said in a statement.
Neither a MotorTrend representative nor Storm returned a Tribune request for comment. In a Facebook post Thursday, Storm said she “wasn’t aware MotorTrend was going to make that announcement” last week.
“As a car lover and gearhead I have had such an amazing experience working on the show for the past 4 years helping make car dreams come true for deserving folks. All the car owners I worked with truly have a place in my heart! I wish it could have lasted longer but all good things must come to an end, eventually,” Storm wrote.
World champion National Hot Rod Association driver Bruno Massel, of Elmhurst, and Minooka mechanic Joe Zolper return for Season 6, which is slated to premiere in the summer. Production began last week. The show is produced by Super Genius, a Chicago digital media and creative incubator.
