"When the cars you built for racing become banned from racing and breed franchise slogans such as “Caterham Seven, the Car That's Too Fast to Race” you know you’re doing something right. The Caterham Superlight is the latest masterwork created by one of the patriarchs of racing design, Colin Chapman. The basic design of the Superlight R500 are the bones of the Lotus 7 which has existed in a mostly unaltered form for more than 50 years. Sure, there have been evolutions in materials, tweaks to dimensions, and the old live-axle rear suspension has long been replaced by a De Dion rear axle. At its heart, however, this is the same car that proved itself unfairly advantageous to race other cars. Caterham purchased the rights to the Lotus 7 in 1973 and has since been “simplifying and adding lightness” as Chapman prophesized so long ago. The Superlight R500 represents a weapons-grade thrill car that can deliver breathtaking performance anywhere it’s required. There are few cars in the world that can match its 0-60 times (at sub-3 seconds) and even fewer that can also equal its lap times that are otherwise only achievable in a purpose-built race car."

Synopsis[]
The R500 is a track-ready model based on the Caterham 7 sports car. With a weight of only 1116 lb (506 kg) it is the lightest open-top sports car to appear in the Forza series, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) in under three seconds.
The R500 debuted in 2008 and ceased production in 2014 to make room for the more powerful 620 R.[2]
The R500 utilises a front mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout with a weight distribution of (47/53)%. It is based on a steel spaceframe chassis covered by aluminium body panels with a curb weight reduced to 1116 lb (506 kg) thanks to using carbon fiber and kevlar.[3]
The powertrain of the R500 is a two litre Duratec engine by Ford with 263 hp (196 kW) at 8500 rpm and 177 ft·lb (240 N·m) at 7200 rpm. In order to match the increase of power, the R500 is fitted with a six-speed sequential manual transmission.[4]
Performance[]
Due to a close-ratio transmission, the R500 has notably quick acceleration as seen on a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time in 2.9 seconds and 0 to 100 mph (161 km/h) time in 7 seconds. As a consequence, it already maxes out at 155 mph (250 km/h) and has strongly pronounced oversteer that requires precise throttle management in corners.
Variants[]
Forza Edition[]
The Forza Edition is an upgraded variant in Forza Horizon 4 that can be won as a Wheelspin prize. It has a Drift Skills boost and an S2 class upgrade preset.
