'Call Me By Your Name' Is on Netflix Right Now (2024)

After giving new meaning to peaches everywhere, Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name has hit Netflix in the U.K. Maybe, encouraged by the recent ImPEACHable offenses, eh? No? I'll see myself out.

You know the tale ofCMBYN, which picked up an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, as well as trophies from the Independent Spirit Awards, Critics' Choice Move Awards, the BAFTAs and more. The project is a romance between Elio and Oliver, who come to meet in Italy, on a 17th-century villa. Oliver has come to function as the research assistant to Elio's father, and from there, a romance -- which has drawn criticism from some as Elio is only 17 and Oliver is around 25 -- blossoms.

The film is based on a novel of the same name by Andre Aciman, who is already writing a sequel novel. The book, titled Find Me, will follow Elio's father, named Samuel, who is headed to Rome to visit his son.

"A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami's life definitively," the publisher wrote in a press release about the book. "Elio soon moves to Paris where he too has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe." That book is out next month.

But that's not the only sequel news that's been puttering about. Guadagnino has also said he's already begun work on a sequel with Aciman. This could essentially be the same story from Find Me, but maybe not! Who knows.

That said, Armie Hammer, who played Oliver, isn't as much into the idea.

"The truth is, there have been really loose conversations about it, but at the end of the day -- I'm sort of coming around to the idea that the first one was so special for everyone who made it, and so many people who watched it felt like it really touched them, or spoke to them," Hammer told Vulture. "And it felt like a really perfect storm of so many things, that if we do make a second one, I think we're setting ourselves up for disappointment. I don't know that anything will match up to the first, you know?"

Ok, but he also didn't eat the peach, so his opinion is automatically invalid.
