Program Overview

Bachelor of Science in Interior Design (BSID) is a four-year degree program designed to teach students design concepts and methods of building interiors. It covers a wide range of professional practices such as interior design, furniture, and accessories design, visual merchandising, production design, exhibition design, interior landscaping design, and lighting design. The program discusses the core business fundamentals such as accounting, economics, and marketing while also including the design basics such as architectural history, textiles, and decorative arts. The BSID program also equips students with skills in operating a computer-aided design technology, reading blueprints, understanding building codes, and deciphering market trends.


Recommended Senior High School Strand

Students who want to pursue a degree in Interior Design are encouraged to take the Arts and Design track. It provides students with the necessary skills needed in the performative and creative field. Skills in music, theater, visual arts, media arts, and dance are taught in this track. This will help students prepare for their college journey.

Admission Requirements

Qualifications

  • The student must be a high school graduate. However, if they were not able to graduate high school, they may opt to take the Alternative Learning System (ALS)
  • and pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to qualify for college; the availability of courses for PEPT passers depend on the university.
  • The students must pass the College Admissions Test of the university.

  • Recommendation letter from High school principal and guidance counselor

  • Copy of NSO Certified birth certificate
  • Certificate of Good moral character

Program Outcome

Graduates of Interior Design are expected to be able to:

  • Identify interior design problems
  • Formulate and implement design concepts, strategies, and approaches using modern technology in interior design
  • Integrate theories, current issues, and design philosophies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the history of arts and period styles; materials of decor; furniture design, building construction, utilities, and legislation, and color studies
  • Articulate design proposals visually, orally, written, and virtual communication
  • Perform ethical professional values when practicing the profession

On-The-Job Training/Internship

During the fourth year of the program, students are required to attend an On the Job Training (OJT) in an interior design firm or agency.


Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting. Usually, universities require them to submit a written report on their tasks, learning experiences, and hours rendered. Their work performance will also be evaluated by their immediate managers and will be submitted to their respective OJT coordinator. The number of hours required may differ in each university.


Board Exam

To become a Licensed Interior Designer in the Philippines, a graduate of BS in Interior Design needs to pass the Interior Design Licensure Exam. The examination is conducted by the Board of Interior Design under the supervision of the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).


Career Opportunities

Graduates of Interior Design may pursue a career path in an interior design firm or agency. They may apply for roles such as a residential interior designer, commercial interior designer, freelance interior designer, institutional space planner, display artist, visual merchandiser, or design consultant.
