Imagine owning a cutting-edge augmented reality headset, only to find out it lacks one of the most basic apps users expect—YouTube. That’s been the reality for Apple Vision Pro owners until now. Finally, Apple has released an official YouTube app for its M2 and M5 Vision Pro devices, available on the App Store. This means users can now immerse themselves in a theater-like virtual environment to watch videos, access playlists, Shorts, and everything else YouTube has to offer. M5 Vision Pro owners even get the added perk of viewing 8K videos, if available.
But here’s where it gets controversial: Why did it take so long for such a fundamental app to arrive? The Vision Pro launched in early 2024, and yet, a dedicated YouTube app was nowhere to be found until now. Sure, users could watch videos through the Safari browser, but let’s be honest—that’s hardly the seamless experience one expects from a premium device. And this is the part most people miss: While YouTube access isn’t a make-or-break feature for the Vision Pro, its absence feels like a missed opportunity, especially given the device’s recent struggles with poor sales. It’s hard not to wonder if Apple could have boosted interest by launching with this app from the start.
The Vision Pro has always felt like a niche product, struggling to find its audience. But for those who did invest in it, the ability to watch 8K YouTube videos is at least a small consolation. Still, it raises a bigger question: Is Apple doing enough to justify the Vision Pro’s premium price tag, or is this just a case of too little, too late? What do you think? Does the addition of YouTube change your view of the Vision Pro, or is it still a hard pass? Let us know in the comments!
