7 Boudoir Photography questions Best questions to ask Boudoir photographers — Arsenic Noir Photography (2024)

Some examples of great questions:

Will there be a hairstylist and make-up artist?

Should I bring props from home, or will there be some I can use on the day?

How much time will I have and does this include outfit changes?

Will editing be included and how many pictures will I get?

Are pictures printed or do you provide a digital file?

2. Where Will The Photo shoot Take Place?

Some photographers have personal studios, some shoot in hotels, some rent locations and some will shoot your session in your own personal space if you request. Sometimes clients have great locations in mind and would prefer to shoot in say a barn or an outdoor secluded spot. Discuss your options with your photographer and chose the easiest option for you.

3. Who Will Be There On The Day?

This amazing and intimate experience should be private. Hair and Makeup usually arrive before hand and are well out of the shoot location by the time you get posing.

A professional photographer will not have more people than needed on location and if you are unsure, please ask. Though once the shoot begins I personally shoo everyone out. I want you to focus on yourself, on your empowering moments and help me to create the most stunning images!

4. Where Will The Photographs Be Used?

The intimate nature of boudoir photography should be an important point in whether or not your photo session will be used on websites, social media or promo campaigns in the future.

Some clients will agree to sign a model release so the photographer is able to use the photos in social media and advertising campaigns but by no means do you have to agree to this. You can be as private or as risqué as you’d like, this is about you and we want you to feel like the goddess you are, the one who is in control.

5. Will You Guide Me During The Photo shoot?

You are not a professional model, who has taken years to hone their craft in some odd and body contorting poses and a professional will understand that 150%. A great photographer will guide you through simple poses, where to put your hands, where to look etc. If you are more comfortable being prepared before your photo session, most photographers have guides with tips and tricks to help their clients feel at ease and better prepared for their shoot day. All professional photographers will know how to help you pose, suggest the best side, yes we all have a best side and remind you to have some fun! This isn’t for time life magazine; this is for you…for your empowerment, your confidence and your internal Goddess.

6. How Can I Prepare For The Boudoir Photo shoot?

This is an amazing question to ask. Most professional photographers have a list of small tasks that you can achieve to get the best results on the day of your boudoir shoot. Be it from where to shop for lingerie, or where to get your nails done before hand. Just like a professional photographer trusts their makeup and hair artists, many have vendors they trust and know firsthand the experience these vendors will give to clients. A great photographer will speak volumes about professionalism when answering this question with confidence. Remember these are usually suggestions but they ultimately want to uncover the best side of you in this journey and have your best interests in mind.

7. What is your cancellation policy?

Now we all know that this intimate photo shoot can be nerve-wracking but knowing and understanding photographer’s cancellation policy can aid in soothing some of those nerves. A professional photographer will have a solid cancellation or re-schedule policy in place so that if something comes up, because it totally can and does, you are prepared.

In Summary

Boudoir Photography is an expression of your inner Goddess, your inner vixen and even your inner divine feminine energy. If you are unsure about anything or something raises a red flag for you, always, always ask questions. Boudoir is a private, intimate and sometimes nerve-wracking process, but if you are well prepared you are going to forget about those nerves and just focus on awakening your inner beauty on the day of your boudoir shoot.
