July is Smart Irrigation Month and our friends at Valley® Irrigation are making sure they use water wisely every month of the year. From irrigating efficiently with variable rate irrigation (VRI) to ensuring consistency with precision corner irrigation technology, Valley is leading the way with water conservation efforts. Saving water is becoming an increasing concern for not only farmers, but for everyone around the world. Whether you're a grower or not, there are several changes you can make to your everyday life that will make a big difference when it comes to saving water. Here are five things you can start doing today to save water! 1. Turn off water while brushing your teeth.
What can be easier than this? Teach your kids to do the same thing. You could save up to four gallons a minutejust from turning the faucet off while you brush. If you already have that mastered, here's some other ideas you could try to implement.
2. Don't run water when hand-washing dishes.
Fill the sink with soapy water to wash your dishes instead of washing them under running water.
3. Shut off your sprinkler system when it's raining.
Shut your automatic sprinklers off when it's raining. There's no need for this extra water use.
4. Turn off water when shampooing your hair.
Turn off the water while shampooing your hair. While probably not an extremely common thing to do, this could save up to 150 gallons of water each month.
5. Only run the washing machine and dishwasher when full.
Don't run your washing machine or dishwasher unless they are full. This could save up to 1,000 gallons of water per month. If you do need to run your washing machine before you have a full load, set your washer for the appropriate sized load.
