10 Ways to boost your weight-loss confidence | SC Internal Medicine Assoc & Rehab (2024)

By Alex Hirsch

Everyone’s weight loss journey is personal. No two experiences are exactly alike. Some days may be easy but many more will be very challenging. It is not uncommon for someone trying to lose weight to feel like giving up some days.

It takes confidence and determination to stick to your weight loss program and to believe that your body is capable of change.

Here are 10 ways to boost your weight-loss confidence.

1. Be Kind To Yourself

Confidence is born out of deep love for yourself. If you don’t love yourself, why are you trying to achieve a healthy weight? Believe that you deserve good things, such as a better body.

2. Set Realistic Expectations

The beginning of any weight loss program is to set a clear and realistic goal. If you weigh 180 pounds, going down to 100 pounds is not very realistic, nor is it healthy. For best results, undergo an advanced body composition analysis to determine the best weight loss goal for your body type. Ideally, losing a few pounds every month is a reasonable expectation.

3. Start With Small Changes

Starting small is the way to go, especially if you’ve never exercised before. Start with stretching exercises and walking at least 30 minutes a day. Slowly ease your way into an exercise program that is higher in intensity.

4. Think of the Benefits

If you find yourself wanting to give up, think of the benefits that you will be missing out on, such as a leaner body, better circulation, better skin, more energy, an improved cognitive and sexual function, and better overall health.

5. Think Positively

Your thought process has a huge effect on your actions. Negativity and being impatient in your weight loss journey will only put you at risk of failing. Constantly remind yourself to be positive and patient as you slowly but effectively lose weight.

6. Quit The Weighing Scale

The weighing scale does not show you what’s best for your type of body, and it does not account for muscle mass, fat distribution, and water weight. The average bathroom scale is just not accurate enough on weight loss.

7. Move Your Body

Exercise is a very important part of a healthy and effective weight loss program. Just moving your body every day will do wonders for you – even if it’s simply walking.

8. Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Quit comparing yourself to other people. It’s your weight loss journey, not anyone else’s. Most of what you see is hardly an accurate representation, which is why it’s best to focus on yourself and build yourself up.

9. Seek Support From Friends and Family

Having the support of the people who love you will grow your confidence and help you accomplish your goals.

10. Reward Yourself

It’s okay to reward yourself every time you reach a milestone. Lose five pounds? Treat yourself to a new dress, have a bit of ice cream, or go out dancing with friends. Do something that brings you joy.
